Day 1 - Bari to Castellammare Di Stabia

After taking a ferry from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Bari, Italy, we arrived at 8:30am.

We spent about one hour choosing hotel for the next 4 nights close to Pompeii and Amalfi Coast in the Naples area. Once that was done we got back on the bike and took the highway A3 to Salerno. Intention was to ride the road on the Amalfi coast from east to west starting in Salerno and finishing Sorrento and then ride the Via Panoramica looking at the Bay of Napoli.

The Amalfi coast is breathtaking and riding with the Italian drivers is something else. By far the most technical ride I have done, bar none. Narrow roads with on-coming buses that cross into your lane, scooters that think they are Moto GP bikes, winding roads with precipices and Italian testosterone make this an unforgettable experience.

For lunch we stopped in Amalfi and had a very good (and expensive) lunch in a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean sea and boats in the marina.

We arrived just before sunset at our beautiful hotel that looks like a villa with lush green gardens and nooks everywhere where you can sit and just enjoy nature. The service is one of the best we have had so far in the trip and one observation is that everyone seems to speak many languages. The best is one of the waiters which speak six (Italian, English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese) and he has different accents for each. For Portuguese he spoke with a Brazilian accent as he had spent some time in Brazil.

We still had a chance to see the sunset from our bedroom window. Priceless.
